Guest Artist Spotlight – Sweet Potato Birdie
The one and only Mary Hock displays her unique skills and creativity with this artisan hand-carved sweet potato.
Mary Hock is a lifelong creative and an early member of the Sweet Potato Society. Armed only with a sweet potato, her imagination, and a kitchen knife, she transformed this simple root vegetable into an adorable little birdie.
You can imagine how tickled we were here at the Sweet Potato Society headquarters when we received these images. Just look at the texture of the feathers, the attention to detail, the slightest wry smile apparent in the beak. Oh, and the pipe cleaner leg…All of these artistic considerations come together to form the story of this birdie’s short but important life, from conception to convection (oven! LOL). What more could you ask for from a piece of Sweet Potato Art!?
